Maybe Volvo buyers are in it for the Swedish meatball lunch at the Gothenburg factory. “If we can’t laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at,” says James Hope of Volvo Cars of North America.
Or maybe they’re in it for the 8 percent savings off vehicle MSRPs and two free tickets to Europe on SAS, which allows buyers to upgrade with frequent-flyer miles.
Many of them pick up an XC90, available in either the V8 Sport or V8 AWD Ocean Race Edition trims. Other models offered through the program include the C70, S40, S60, S80, V50, V70, XC70, S60 R and V70 R.
If owners prefer to drive with Volvo’s guidance, the company sells vacation tours that range from 3 days to 11 days, not all of them in Sweden. Prices start at $425 per person based on double occupancy. Children travel for a discounted rate. Each of the trips comes with an extensive map pack, so owners can follow the route, or make independent jaunts before reaching the day’s destination hotel.
Volvo also offers winter vacation packages, three days in either Barcelona, Spain, at the St. Moritz, or in Stockholm, Sweden, at the Radisson SAS Royal Viking, followed by two nights in Gothenburg for $499 for two people. Round-trip airport transfers by private car are included.
