"We really wanted to show that this guy stuck with what he came from," Entourage creator and executive producer Doug Ellin said about the vehicle choice. "And then he was living in this multimillion-dollar house; he still kept his car."
Two seasons later, Murphy, the former Sbarro pizzaria manager from Queens turned Hollywood manager, is the possessor of a growing fleet of exotics — including a 2006 Aston Martin DB9 and a Ducati motorcycle.
But the character's signature vehicle, the one that symbolized perhaps the series' most essential storyline and cliffhanger, is a silver 2005 Maserati Quattroporte.
In the final episode of season one, Murphy and movie star Vince Chase — friends since childhood — were having a snit regarding what formal role, if any, Murphy should play in Chase’s career.
The lads ultimately came to an agreement and prepared to fly off on business. The question remained: what to do with Murphy’s vehicle?
"Leave it," Chase said. "I can't have my manager go driving around in a piece of [waste] like that."
The next season, the Quattroporte arrived via Chase, courtesy of a promo-hungry dealership. The Maserati, Ellin said, "was a real step up."
