People of retirement age (65 years) and older overwhelmingly favor large American luxury cars, as this list shows. Comfort, ease of entry and exit and, oddly enough, a gear shift on the steering-wheel column, are key traits these drivers look for.
The demographic data in this list comes from a J.D. Power and Associates survey of about 7,000 auto dealerships nationwide conducted between Jan. 1 and April 27. Pricing information is from the manufacturers and mileage estimates are from the Environmental Protection Agency, based on 2008 models, except for the Buick Terraza, which was discontinued after 2007.
