The starring, fictional vehicle of Spy Hunter, the memorable 1980s arcade game, was called a G-6155 CIA Prototype Interceptor.

"Spy Hunter was kind of a takeoff on James Bond's Aston Martins," said Steven L. Kent, a video game historian and author. "It was a combination of James Bond's Aston Martins and KITT from Knight Rider. You know, the days of David Hasselhoff.

"You drive this car, it looked vaguely like the Aston Martin," Kent continued. "It wasn't a detailed Aston Martin, but it had the hubcap and the axel lasers that would cut other cars. It had rockets and machine guns just like the one in Goldfinger. And then when you got damaged or you needed to reload your weapons or upgrade, an 18-wheel truck would come and you would try to drive up a ramp into its rear."

GameSpy.com, a site for multiplayer gamers, and other sites note that the Interceptor was based on a Chevrolet Camaro Z28. Since a 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am played television's KITT, and since Camaros shared the Trans-Am platform, we'll trust that designation.

By the way, in addition to an upcoming 2007 Spy Hunter major motion picture starring The Rock, an accompanying The Rock-voiced video game arrived on Sept. 5.
