Actor Steve McQueen's Bullitt character famously drove a 1968 Ford Mustang GT390; and if the car was good enough for a lengthy chase scene along the winding, dipping, scenic streets of San Francisco, then the car's surely good enough for those of us sitting at home, staring into a television screen or computer monitor, operating a controller.

Sega GT 2002, à la the Gran Turismo series, offers players a large selection of splendidly rendered vehicles. Various game mode options allow for muscle-car battles — hello, Mustang — as well as longer-term gaming, featuring visits to virtual car dealers, parts shops and mechanics. Once races conclude, a cinematic replay occurs. Prize money is also awarded.

Much of the buzz surrounding the game centers on the "Chronicle Mode," which features the muscle cars from the '70s and '80s.
