• In 1986, 60 Minutes aired a segment claiming that Audis uncontrollably accelerated, sometimes injuring or killing bystanders. Audi sales in the U.S. plummeted, though it has since been shown that the incidents were caused by drivers unknowingly pressing the accelerator rather than the brake pedal.
