Maybach turned to engine building and was later assimilated by Daimler-Benz, then Mercedes' parent company. More recently, DaimlerChrysler revived the Maybach name when it set out to create a line of hand-crafted luxury autos that would transcend models available in the Mercedes-Benz line.
Maybachs are only built to a confirmed customer order, with 70 Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the U.S. offering special facilities where one can examine colors and options to design a Maybach to their specifications on a computer screen.
