2007 Nissan 350Z Roadster Model Overview

2007 Nissan 350Z Roadster

Open-Air Fun

The Nissan 350Z Roadster adds a convertible top for open-air excitement when the weather turns warm, in addition to the coupe version's stirring performance and reasonable comfort.

The two-seat Nissan 350Z Roadster is one of the rare Japanese grand touring cars, with a heritage that dates back to the well-loved 1970 Datsun 240Z. The Roadster adds a power-operated cloth top for speed-loving sun worshippers.

As always, it’s able to run with some heady competition at fairly reasonable prices. Like the closed-roof version, the Nissan 350Z Roadster is mechanically related to the Infiniti G35 Coupe. Both the Nissan and Infiniti versions are slated for major redesigns for the 2008 model year.

The Nissan 350Z Roadster comes powered by a strong, 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces just above 300 hp. It lacks the sheer muscle and bragging rights of a V8, but this engine is still able to take the car to 60 mph in around 5.5 seconds. Not only that, it gets reasonably good fuel economy. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on the Nissan 350Z Roadster, and it adds to the car’s sporty flair, especially among enthusiasts. A five-speed automatic transmission is optional.

The rear-drive Nissan 350Z Roadster rides on the latest generation of the automaker’s so-called front midship platform, which also provides the basis for three Infiniti models: the G35, the M sedan and the FX crossover SUV. Enthusiasts favor rear-wheel drive for its superior balance, which aids handling, improves steering feel and allows better power delivery from the engine to the wheels.

With nearly ideal balance (53/47 front-to-rear weight distribution) and a four-wheel independent lightweight aluminum suspension, the Nissan 350Z Roadster has stellar driving dynamics. Large wheels and tires, four-wheel disc antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, along with a speed-sensitive power-steering system are added benefits.

The Nissan 350Z Roadster features a fully automatic power top with a glass rear window. They stow beneath a hard tonneau cover. Unfortunately, the convertible isn’t half as attractive with the top up as it is with the top down.

Is the Nissan 350Z Roadster for You?
Buy the 350Z Roadster if
You want a quick, nimble and fun open-air sports car that's comfortable enough for daily driving and highway cruising; you’re a fan of the original 240Z and appreciate the 30-year heritage that traces back to it from today’s Z car.

Keep Looking if
You require more than two seats; you want a hardtop, in which case you should consider the coupe version; you’re a power monger and like burly V8s.

Who Fits?
The stylish cockpit welcomes two average-size adults, though, as with most sports cars of this size, larger riders may crave more room; the less-limber might find access a challenge, particularly with the top up.
