Actually, the EX35 is more aptly called a “crossover utility vehicle” (crossover or CUV for short) because it blends attributes of cars and SUVs. Still, at 16.8 cubic feet without the rear seats folded down, the EX35’s cargo area is only a few cubic-feet larger than the Infiniti G Sedan’s trunk.
The EX’s front seats are a squeeze for big folks, and if you are tall and need to push them back, you’ll wipe out leg room in the rear. Even when the front seats are moved forward, few adults will want to spend a lot of time in back; it seems meant for youngsters or a couple of child seats.
The Infiniti EX35 might be the right vehicle for single folks or young couples who put a premium on sleek looks, sporty handling, and Infiniti’s nouveau-riche cachet. But if true utility is a requirement, there are better choices available.
The EX35 comes in four flavors: The standard EX35 with a cloth interior is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A step up brings the more luxurious EX35 Journey model, also available with rear- or all-wheel drive. It includes a power slide/tilt moonroof with one-touch activation, leather upholstery, power-folding second-row seat, auto-dimming inside mirror with electronic compass, HomeLink Universal Transceiver, front and rear sonar system, and auto on/off headlights.
A number of expensive options packages are also available and often are the only way to get the most high-tech and luxurious features.
The EX35 combines a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, and a passenger cabin set toward the rear of the vehicle to create a curvaceous, sporty-looking package that is not radically different from other crossover utility vehicles.
Familiar Infiniti styling cues include a double-arch grille, L-shaped headlights, integrated fog lights, and LED taillights.
The EX35 offers beefy-looking 17-inch, seven-spoke wheels or 18-inch, 8-spoke wheels. The latter look more dramatic, but make for a harsher ride and are more likely to get scuffed, scraped, or bent on broken pavement.
The EX35's paint finish is a marvel of micro-engineering that basically heals itself of small scratches. Nissan, Infiniti's parent company, has developed a special highly elastic resin that, when combined with a conventional clear coat, can automatically fill in minor scratches and make them disappear after a few days.
