2008 Jaguar S-Type

2008 Jaguar S-Type Model Overview

2008 Jaguar S-Type

The Last Ride

The midsize Jaguar S-Type takes a final spin with nominal updates before being retired from the lineup in early 2008.

The Jaguar S-Type has curvaceous, retro-inspired styling that recalls classic Jaguar Mark II and S-Type “saloons” (as the British call four-door cars) from the 1950s and '60s. For all that, the Jaguar S-Type shook up Jaguar purists, since it shares chassis and some components with the now discontinued Lincoln LS.

The midsize S-Type is smaller and less expensive than the full-size Jaguar XJ sedan. It receives favorable reviews, especially for its eye-catching design and interior comfort, but it's been around too long in its present form, and sales have been caught in a downward spiral. It will be replaced in early 2008 by an all new model, the sleek coupe-like Jaguar XF sedan.

Jaguar S-Type Vehicle Summary

The Jaguar S-Type model range runs from soft-riding luxury to fast and furious. The well-equipped base 3.0 version is powered by a 235-hp 3.0-liter V6 engine mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The 300-hp V8 in the Jaguar S-Type 4.2 offers extra standard equipment along with added muscle. All models have a four-wheel independent suspension that ensures a comfortable ride and secure handling.

The sporty Jaguar S-Type R gets a blazing 400-hp supercharged version of the 4.2-liter powerplant, along with performance enhancements, such as more powerful brakes, upgraded wheels wrapped in performance tires and a performance-tuned suspension. Jaguar's Computer Active Technology suspension keeps the ride pliant and the handling precise. The R model also adds supportive sport seats, a leather-covered sport steering wheel, and bird's-eye maple wood interior trim.
