Lexus' GX 470 might not win any fuel-economy awards, but it is powerful, elegant, and comfortable.
The Lexus GX 470 shares its powertrain and four-wheel-drive system with the larger LX 470. Its 4.7-liter V8 engine generates a generous 263 hp with 323 pound-feet of torque, which affords strong acceleration and a 6,500-pound towing capacity. It’s mated to a five-speed automatic transmission that includes a second-gear start feature to aid winter driving (starting in a higher gear reduces the likelihood of the tires spinning). Fuel economy is not its strong suit.
