2008 Lincoln Navigator

2008 Lincoln Navigator Model Overview

2008 Lincoln Navigator

Lincoln Stays the Course with Its Navigator

Lincoln has improved the Navigator in many ways, but it's still a lumbering giant that guzzles gas.

The nation’s love affair with large sport utility vehicles has soured, and that puts the Lincoln Navigator and other behemoths at a disadvantage in today’s market. But for those still looking for a large, luxurious and versatile SUV, the recently redesigned Navigator is a marked improvement over its predecessor.

It has bolder styling, a more refined ride and a host of new luxury features. It also comes in a new extended-length "L" version that includes 25 cubic feet more storage space behind the third row of seats.

We drove a 2008 Lincoln Navigator for a week in both urban and suburban environments. Our four-wheel-drive model came with virtually every available bell and whistle and carried a sticker price of around $57,000, which is comparable with its primary competition, the Cadillac Escalade.

Like the models before it, the updated Navigator is essentially a dressed-up version of the Ford Expedition, which costs $17,000 less.

The Navigator has capabilities and comforts beyond those of a luxury sedan, such as its ability to seat eight occupants and tow heavy loads. But its massive size and lack of fuel efficiency aren’t for everyone.
