The Stormy C
With the C63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz follows the time-tested formula of stuffing a huge engine into a small car.

The entry-level
C-Class sedan is
Mercedes-Benz's top-selling model. In its more basic forms, the C-Class combines a moderately luxurious interior with good driving dynamics, but the C63 AMG ups the performance ante significantly.
With
BMW foisting its new and improved
M3 on the world, Mercedes-Benz is using the C63 AMG to launch a strong counterattack. With a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine making 457 horsepower stuffed into the C-Class's compact chassis, the C63 gets a substantial 95-hp upgrade over the outgoing C55 AMG. Mercedes claims a zero to 60 mph time of just 4.5 seconds, in league with the M3. To the possible chagrin of enthusiasts, this rear-wheel-drive sedan is only available with an automatic transmission.
New body panels further distinguish the C63 AMG from the more quotidian C-Class. The front bumper gets an aggressive makeover, 19-inch wheels are framed by muscular arches and two "power bulges" on the hood betray the monster that lurks beneath. The C63 AMG's interior shows some sporting enhancements as well. Highly bolstered bucket seats encourage aggressive cornering and a new instrument panel and aluminum trim contribute to an upscale feel.
