2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid Preview
Same Brawn, New Brains
The Durango Hybrid's tough demeanor will appeal to those who don't want to give up rugged looks for the sake of a hybrid powertrain.

The
Dodge Durango Hybrid is
Chrysler's other hybrid SUV with a Hemi engine. Its engine and hybrid system are mechanically identical to those in the
Aspen Hybrid. It uses a 5.7-liter V8 engine in conjunction with an electric motor to improve fuel efficiency by 40 percent in the city and 25 percent on the highway. At low speeds it can run on electricity alone.
The only real difference from the Aspen is the Durango's looks. Although its green powertrain may provide more peace of mind, its tougher image might be more appealing to those looking to roll around in something that at least looks like a brawny SUV, as opposed to the jacked-up minivan aesthetics of the relatively prim Aspen.
