The Acura TL offers "soft" and "hard"-riding trim and equipment packages. Like other luxury brands, Acura recognizes that the "sporty" crowd may be willing to pay extra for a stiffer, sportier ride, while the "comfort" crowd wants a softer ride. And neither likes too much of a compromise. The sporty version of the Acura TL is called the Type-S, a designation that Acura uses to denote a sportier variant -- not to be confused with the Mercedes S-Class, or the Jaguar S-Type. Besides the stiffer suspension, the Acura TL Type-S also comes with added power and an available six-speed manual transmission. Even the softer, base TL comes with a strong V6 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission. A mid-product-cycle face-lift added a revised front fascia and new headlamps and taillights.
The midsize Acura TL sedan offers a softer ride in its base version, versus sportier handling and a quicker engine in its Type-S trim.
