BMW?s M5 is based on the midsize 5 Series sedan and is one of the fastest and most powerful four-doors in the world. Its 5.0-liter V10 engine puts out a lofty 500 hp to the rear wheels. But this car isn?t just speedy in a straight line; its handling is superb. A six-speed manual transmission is newly offered as an alternative to the still-standard seven-speed sequential-manual gearbox. Settings for acceleration response, shift patterns, suspension settings and stability control intervention are all adjustable, which can either be a blessing or a curse, depending on your point of view. Like its performance, the M5?s price elevates it above most sedans and ensures that only a select few will ever own this very special four-door. The M6 is the two-door equivalent of the M5, with the same engine and available transmissions.
