The powerful Lexus GS 450h is the industry's first rear-drive hybrid. It debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. A 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, teamed up with two electric motor/generators, produces an impressive 340 hp, yet it also achieves an estimated 25 mpg city/28 mpg highway. The powertrain includes a gearless continuously variable transmission (CVT), which uses belts and pulleys in lieu of gears. The GS 450h is graced with eye-catching styling, the equivalent of smooth V8 power and crisp handling. It is costly, but it includes a long list of advanced chassis control systems, creature comforts and high-tech features.
The S coupe and convertible are faster than the standard Mini Cooper, thanks to a supercharged engine.
