A slightly dressier version of the Ford Escape Hybrid, the Mercury Mariner Hybrid combines a 2.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor/generator and a rechargeable battery pack to produce the equivalent of 155 hp. It delivers the acceleration of a conventional V6, but with fuel economy (32 mpg city/29 mpg highway) that beats that of the four-cylinder gasoline engine in the standard Mariner. The Mariner Hybrid has a versatile and roomy interior for its size and firm, responsive handling that might feel harsh to those used to smoothing-riding sedans. It continues for 2007 with only minor updates.
The Mercury Mariner Hybrid is just as practical and versatile as any compact SUV, but it gets superior fuel economy.
