The Ford Escape Hybrid is one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs available. It combines a four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor, generator and rechargeable battery pack to produce the equivalent of 155 horsepower. This provides acceleration similar to that of the gasoline-powered V6 model, but with fuel economy that beats the four-cylinder gasoline version. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard and uses belts and pulleys in lieu of traditional gears to yield smooth acceleration. All-wheel drive is optional, but the Escape Hybrid is not designed for serious off-roading.
The frugal Ford Escape Hybrid is one of the fuel-economy leaders among SUVs.
