The "two-mode" GMC Yukon Hybrid registers a 25 percent advantage in combined city/highway fuel economy over a conventionally powered model, thanks to an electric motor/generator and a self-charging battery pack that assist its 6.0-liter V8 engine. The full-size truck can run solely on electricity, solely on engine power, or on a combination of the two. The gas engine deactivates half its cylinders at cruising speeds. Cosmetic differences between the standard Yukon and the Hybrid are minimal. Offered in a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, it retains many of the gasoline version's utilitarian attributes, though its maximum tow rating is 2,000 pounds lower. The GMC Yukon Hybrid is mechanically equivalent to the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.
The GMC Yukon Hybrid brings advanced fuel-saving technology to a rough-and-ready full-size SUV for 25 percent better fuel economy.
