The Lexus RX 400h, the first hybrid-powered Lexus, is quicker than the conventionally powered RX 350 on which it's based, yet gets better fuel economy. The RX 400h has a gasoline-powered V6 engine, teamed up with electric motor/generators to achieve the equivalent of 268 hp with strong low-end torque, which boosts acceleration from a standstill. A continuously variable transmission (CVT), which uses belts and pulleys in place of gears, provides smooth and steady acceleration. Both front- and all-wheel-drive versions are offered. A retuned suspension provides a sportier feel than the RX 350. The RX 400h is comfortable, refined, and practical, with seating for five passengers.
