The Saab 9-7X is the most luxurious version of a slew of SUVs from General Motors that are built off the same chassis, including the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, and Isuzu Ascender. The 9-7X carries Saab-specific styling cues and other details; for instance, the ignition is located in the center console behind the gear lever. The base 9-7X 4.2i has a six-cylinder engine. The 9-7X 5.3i has a V8 engine with Active Fuel Management, which disables half the cylinders when they are not needed, to save fuel. A four-speed automatic is the only transmission offered. All-wheel drive and StabiliTrak stability control are standard. A lack of low-range gearing limits its off-road utility.
The faux-Swedish Saab 9-7X SUV may be heading toward the end of the trail.
