The Volkswagen Touareg SUV is comfortable, well-equipped and extremely capable off-road. A slow seller, it received a mid-cycle update for 2008 that included powertrain improvements and styling updates. It has a high-quality interior and refined road manners, despite its robust chassis. A mighty V10 turbodiesel engine option combines sheer muscle with relatively good fuel economy. Unlike many of its family friendly competitors, however, the Touareg offers neither a third-row seat nor a DVD entertainment system.
