The "two-mode" hybrid version of the brawny Chevrolet Tahoe SUV brings a significant improvement in efficiency over the gasoline-powered model, with 25 percent better overall fuel economy. It teams a 6.0-liter V8 gasoline engine with an electric motor/generator and a self-charging battery pack. The engine shuts down half its cylinders during low-load driving to save gas. To lower wind resistance, the Tahoe Hybrid rides slightly lower than the conventional model, and includes an aluminum hood and liftgate to save weight. Offered with either rear- or four-wheel drive, it is roomy, comfortable and powerful for those who require such a large vehicle. The Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is mechanically equivalent to the GMC Yukon Hybrid.
