The GMC Yukon Hybrid uses a "two-mode" hybrid powertrain to register a 25 percent improvement in overall fuel economy compared to the conventionally powered Yukon. It packs a 6.0-liter V8 engine that is hooked to an electric motor/generator and a self-charging battery pack. This full-size SUV can run solely on electricity, solely on engine power or on a combination of the two. The gas engine deactivates half its cylinders at cruising speeds to further reduce consumption. There are minimal cosmetic differences between the standard Yukon and its hybrid counterpart, and most are a result of the hybrid's aerodynamic tweaks. Offered in rear- or four-wheel drive, the Yukon Hybrid retains many of the standard model's utilitarian attributes, though its maximum tow rating is 2,000 pounds lower. The GMC Yukon Hybrid is mechanically equivalent to the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.
